The walking vigil route will begin in Victoria Embankment Gardens in a section known as the MoD Gardens. The closest and easiest underground station for the gathering point is Westminster which is on the Jubilee, District and Circle Lines. Charing Cross Station is a 10 minute walk away and Victoria Station a bus or tube ride to Westminster. Many bus routes run down Whitehall including 12, 24, 88, 159 and 453.
Accessiblility information from Transport for London can be found here.
We have an inclusive vision for the vigil. If you have any additional support needs, we would be pleased to hear from you and will help as much as we can. Use the contact form on our website to get in touch.
For those who may not wish to walk the full route, we suggest you join at the beginning, and leave when you wish. Please try to arrive by 11.45am for a 12.00 noon start. The expected timeline is as follows:
- 11.45am Please try to arrive for a 12.00 start & briefing from stewards
- 12.15pm Words of welcome followed by silent reflection
- 12.40pm Leave Victoria Embankment Gardens
- 2.15pm Arrive at St Martin in the Fields for silent reflection and closing words
- 3pm Time available for refreshments
We welcome young people and families who may wish to join us. Support is being coordinated by the Young Quaker London Link Group and you can find more information here.
If you are unfamiliar with the Westminster area, you may wish to arrange to travel with others and/or to have contact details readily at hand so you can keep in touch. You could also have a buddy or buddies – a person or two who you will mutually check-in with and look out for each other.
The closest public toilets are at the south end of Whitehall in the underpass and in Charing Cross Station. Saint Martin in the Fields also has facilities.
