Our Vision

The silent walking vigil is a positive, public witness for peace by Quakers, with an invitation to all who are supportive to join us.  We want to show our solidarity and care for those impacted by violence, conflict and war.  The date has been chosen for its proximity to the United Nations International Day of Peace.

We are aiming for an event at scale – a “loud silence” prominently visible in central London.   Also we are encouraging Quaker communities UK-wide to arrange local peace activities around the same date so those unable to be present in London can feel involved.

The vision originated in a “Rallying Call” article by Steve Day, published in The Friend on 9 January 2026.  A further article was featured in May 2026.

In our planning, we have used Quaker discernment, seeking to be guided by the Spirit.  We see the vigil as a manifestation of Quaker light and love in action, rooted in our long-standing commitment to peace.
